The Man Born to Farming
I awoke this morning to an incredible, glowing-red sunrise and the news that Wendell Berry had passed away. As one can guess from the name of our youngest son, Wendell Berry has been an inspiration, a comfort, and a guidepost throughout our journey of becoming farmers and in our lives lived close to the land and the seasons. It seems only appropriate to leave the rest of this week’s words to the ever wise and inspiring poet, novelist and environmentalist from Kentucky. This is a photo of the Wendell Berry Poem that hangs on our fridge. It is a bit crumpled and worn and maybe a tad sticky too and it has been there for all of us on some of the harder days we have had here on the farm. Enjoy it. And, for those of you who will know what I mean - don’t ever forget to be like the fox.
Our Cookeville Market will be stocked with arugula, lettuce mix, kale, rainbow chard, cukes, summer squashes, scallions, carrots , beets, green and yellow beans, radishes, cherry tomatoes, big slicers and heirloom tomatoes, new potatoes, lots of sweet corn and some early bird delicatta squash!
As always we have a full selection of our pastured meats and eggs, local milk, yogurt, cheese and goodies galore from Marilyn’s Kitchen. Freshly baked bread is available on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
Open Wednesday and Friday 8:30am till 6pm and Saturday 8:30 till 3pm.
The Last Pizza Night is this Saturday at the farm. We will be fiddling away the end of summer with Norah and Eliza. Reservations are required - email margaret@crossmolinafarm.com with pizza night in the subject line or call the farm
