Flower Thermometer

It has been COLD! We are all pretty tired of the less than lovely weather we have been having but we got a reminder the other day that the soil is making progress in warming up -dandelions appeared! Widely misunderstood as “just a weed” these little yellow guys are not only nutritious for both people and animals (the flowers are good fried in flour and butter and you can use the leaves in a salad and the roots as a coffee like drink) they are also a happy little yellow soil thermometer. They bloom when the soil temperature reaches about 55F which is warm enough to plant potatoes which we will be doing this week if we don’t get rained out.

Thanks to our greenhouse (where the dandelions bloomed over a month ago) we will be harvesting baby spinach, baby lettuce mix, arugula, tatsoi, broccoli raab, and radishes this week! We will also have Choy Sum - we really love this broccolini-like Asian green. Come try some! As always, we have a full selection of our pastured meats, eggs, local milk, yogurt and cheeses plus goodies galore from Marilyn's Kitchen.

Jonathan's bread is back in stock every Saturday morning and we have a new farm-made sourdough sandwich loaf that we are baking Wednesday - come try one ! These loaves will be fresh out of the oven mid day.

We are done with Friday nights until fall. We are resting up and planning for pizza nights which starts May 30th. Reservations will be open next week for the first two evenings. We are looking forward to seeing you all!
