C in CSA
We made it to the second half of February folks - some sunny days, some longer days, some time above freezing! Feels like summer....Which reminds me that it is officially National CSA sign up week! While it is true that our Free Choice CSA cards mean that you all can reload or sign up for a share any time of the year, we wanted to remind you all how helpful it is for us to have an influx of cash this time of year when we are buying seeds, potting soil and amendments, making plans for new chicks and feeding lots of piglets.
The C in CSA stands for community. The community supporting our farm by paying upfront for the veggies and pastured meats our family grows and our farm supporting the community with great food and, sometimes, the opportunity to help more folks have access to what we grow and raise…
This is why we participate in the NOFA-VT Farm Share Program!
The Farm Share Program provides fresh, local foods to Vermonters in need of financial assistance via reduced-price CSA shares. This program ensures that farmers (that’s us!) are paid in full.
If you or someone you know would like one of our CSAs but are struggling to afford it, the Farm Share program might be able to help! NOFA-VT typically subsidizes 50% of your share cost, up to $350 off.
Applications are open February 1st through February 28th. Apply today at nofavt.org/farmshare.
Our Cookeville Market is stocked with carrots, beets, parsnips, sweet potatoes, cabbages, garlic, potatoes, onions, fresh greens and tomatoes from Long Wind Farm, a full selection of our pastured meats, eggs, local milk, yogurt and cheeses and goodies galore from Marilyn's Kitchen.
We have fresh bagels on Thursdays and on Saturday we have fresh bread from Bright Sun Kitchen in Bradford.
We are shaking things up a bit this week - Burger Night is Burrito Night! Friday between 5 and 6pm stop by the Cookeville Market and have us build a burrito or a plate of loaded nachos to your exact and delicious specifications. Loads of toppings available including black or pinto beans, chicken, pork carnita, maple mole salsa, local greens and pico de gallo...
p.s - burger night will be back next week!
