Endings and Beginings
Last night we ate freshly picked sweet corn from the field. After dinner, sitting on the porch in the gathering twilight, we heard crickets and were reminded that summer’s end is near. If peepers are a sure sign of spring, crickets are the opposite bookend of summer and a reminder that this lovely season is starting to wind down. This time of year I often think of one of my favorite passages in E. B White’s Charlotte’s Web. It’s pictured above - and it speaks for itself. Enjoy the last of summer!
Our Cookeville Market will be stocked with arugula, lettuce mix, kale, rainbow chard, cukes, summer squashes, scallions, carrots , beets, snap peas, green beans, radishes, cherry tomatoes, big slicers and heirloom tomatoes, new potatoes and lots of sweet corn!
